July 15, 2024 – 4 p.m.
After working through the weekend and into Monday to reach the final few locations that had been inaccessible or difficult to repair, WEC crews believe we have now restored power to all remaining member premises that are able to be reconnected. However, in an outage like this it is always possible that some homes may not be re-energized, but are not showing up as out on our system. If you remain out of power but do not need electrical work on your home or service entrance before electrical service can be restored, please contact us to let us know.
Once again, WEC crews have done extraordinary work to restore power under very difficult circumstances. Please join us in thanking them, and thank you to all members for their patience and their assistance to their neighbors and community.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized. If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
July 12, 2024 – 3 p.m.
Although crews will continue to work into the weekend to repair power lines following this week’s damaging floods, we anticipate that we will be unable to restore power to a handful of WEC households before Saturday, Sunday or even Monday.
In Plainfield, damage to roads and bridges is preventing access to an area where 4 locations remain out of power. The complicated nature of the restoration means that work may take until Monday to be completed.
In the Dunbar Hill Road area of Fayston, town road crews are working on restoring access to an area with 11 WEC members who are out of power. We expect to restore power in that area Saturday.
Around Great Brook in Middlesex a large section of WEC lines were destroyed and must be rebuilt. Crews are working in that area now, but given the number of trees to be cleared and the length of the line to be rebuilt it will likely take until Sunday for that work to be completed. Although 13 members are currently out of power, crews hope to be able to restore power to all but 4 by late Friday or early Saturday. The remaining outages may take a day or two longer to restore.
Outages continue to come in as a result of storm damage, and there may be other scattered outages that take longer than we anticipate to restore.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized. If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
July 12, 2024 – 5:30 a.m.
Crews have been able to restore power to all but about 55 WEC members. Those remaining outages are the most difficult to repair, either because roads are not yet passable again or because substantial damage requires extensive rebuilding or moving of lines. Line crew members continue to work on power restoration.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized. If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
July 11, 2024 – 4 p.m.
Crews have worked diligently to bring the number of outages down to about 165 in WEC territory. Unfortunately, a number of those who are currently out are likely to remain without power until tomorrow at least and in some cases much longer. That is because many of these areas are unreachable, or unreachable with the equipment necessary to restore power.
Among these areas are Delong Road and Dunbar Hill Road in Fayston, Ward Brook Road in Moretown, and Brook Road in Middlesex. Along Brook Road entire sections of poles and wires were washed away, meaning that entirely new sections of line will need to be built which will take a significant amount of time. Areas along Brook Road in Plainfield have also been washed entirely away, and are not reachable. Restoration of these areas will likely take days or even longer.
Remember: Do not approach downed lines or trees on lines, as they may still be energized. If you see a tree on power lines or lines down, please report it to us: local 802-223-5245 or toll-free 1-800-932-5245.
July 11, 2024 – 1 p.m.
Crews have had to turn off power to about 61 WEC members in Fayston in order to remove trees on the lines and repair damaged poles and wires. That work will take several hours, but power should be restored by this evening.
Roughly 400 WEC members remain out of power. Although crews will work into the evening repairing power lines, it is very likely that some outages will persist into tomorrow given lack of access due to damaged roads and the delays in restoration given those complexities. We will update later this afternoon with our best information on what areas we expect to remain out of power overnight.

July 11, 2024 – 10:30 a.m.
Crews have successfully restored many of the outages in the Orange and Williamstown areas, and are working in the other parts of the territory that they can reach. About 430 WEC members remain out currently, with about 1,900 out across Vermont. We hope to restore the larger outages today, but because of lack of road access some parts of our territory may remain out into tomorrow.

July 11, 2024 – 8 a.m.
Crews are working to restore power in WEC territory, but are discovering that some areas where lines are down are not reachable due to road outages. These include the area of Ward Brook Road in Moretown and Dunbar Hill Road in Fayston. Line workers will restore power in other areas, returning when they can access these areas.

July 11, 2024 – 5:30 a.m.
Just over 800 WEC members are out of power due to the storm that began last night. Crews are in the field assessing and repairing damage. Their progress will be significantly slowed due to impassable roads, many of which are not yet marked. We will update information here throughout the day.

July 10, 2024 – 8:00 p.m.
As the storms move through Vermont power outages are rising for GMP, VEC and WEC. Currently WEC has 369 outages with the majority being in the Orange and Williamstown area. Crews are assigned and will restore power as soon as safely possible. It is important for everyone to be safe during these storms that include the threat of flooding and strong winds. Please take the necessary precautions to stay safe and be prepared for being without power for at least overnight. Next update will be in the morning. Please refer to https://washingtonelectric.ebill.coop/maps/external/OutageWebMap/ for current outage numbers.
