Affordable Community Renewable Energy Program (ACRE)

WEC is now able to offer its income eligible households a significant discount on your monthly WEC electric bill.

In partnership with the State of Vermont and our sister cooperative the Vermont Electric Co-op (VEC), WEC is offering an on-going monthly discount on the household electric bill of $45 per month for five years. There is no up-front payment or any additional charge to income qualifying members.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • A residential member of Washington Electric Co-op
  • Have a total gross household income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level, which varies by the number of people in the household.

To apply:

  • Complete the ACRE application form from the state of Vermont Department of Children and Families (DCF) (be sure to sign it.)
  • Enclose that form, along with your most recent WEC electric bill in the provided, addressed posted-paid envelope and mail via USPS to DCF. (Address is on the form.)

DCF will review your application. Review will take approximately 45 days.  If you are eligible, WEC will contact you and assist you setting up your monthly bill credits.

NOTE: You must continue to pay your full electric bill while the review is in process.

Additional notes:

  • If you already qualify for certain state benefits such 3Squares, Fuel Assistance, and ReachUp you will likely qualify for ACRE. Please review form for accuracy.
  • Space in the program is limited so it’s important to act promptly (applying doesn’t guarantee there will be spots available at the time of the approval). Eligible WEC member households will be enrolled on a “first come, first served” basis until enrollment is closed.
